Falling Weight Impact Tester Model 300C
ISO 3127, EN744, EN1411
Plantation, FL
March 28, 2013
The new Falling Weight Impact Tester Model 300 is used to perform impact tests on plastic pipes, conforming to ISO 3127, EN744 and EN1411. Test pieces are subjected to blows from a falling striker, of specified mass and shape, dropped from a known height onto specified positions around the circumference of the test piece. The true impact rate of the batch, or production run from an extruder, is estimated.
There are two test methods – round-the-clock method and staircase method.
Weight Impact Tester Model 400
ASTM D2444
The new Falling Weight Impact Tester Model 400 is mainly used to determine the impact resistance of thermoplastic pipes and fittings under specified conditions of impact by means of a tup (falling weight). Three interchangeable striking noses are used on the tup, differing in the geometrical configuration. Two specimen holders are described.
ASTM D2444 covers the process used to determine the resistance of thermoplastic pipe and fittings to impact by a tup (falling weight) under defined conditions. The mass of the tup shall be 6, 12, 20 or 30 lbs (2.7, 5.4, 9.1, or 13.6 kg). There are three interchangeable inserts for the tup, Type A is a cone with a rounded point, Type B is a cylinder with a relatively flat surface, and Type C has a 0.5" diameter “pin” with a rounded end. Two specimen supports (either a V-block or a Flat Plate) are defined in the standard. The combination of test variables which offers reasonably repeatable results with the test being easy to run with little or no hazard to personnel is the one that should be used.
The impact resistance of thermoplastic pipe and fittings relates to its suitability for service and to quality of the processing. It may also provide a relative measure of the tested material’s resistance to breakage during handling and installation, and in non-buried applications, to in-service breakage. Results gathered by this test can be used as the basis for establishing impact test requirements in product standards; to measure the effect of changes in materials or processing on the product and to measure any effects of the environment on the pipe or fittings.

Qualitest’s RT-OIL - Optical Emission Spectrometer saves you time and money
Ft Lauderdale, FL
Sept 5, 2012
The RT-OIL spectrometer by Qualitest can be used in correlation with both ASTM norms and DoD JOAP
for oil conditions monitoring and failure prevention procedure. Typical application field varies from military
forces, airlines, railways, marine fleets, public and private transportation companies, mines, refineries,
power plants, oil plants, oil recycler, manufacturing plants, commercial laboratories, racing team and
whenever there is the need for elemental analysis of lubricating oils, transmission fluids, fuels, hydraulic
fluids and greases for wear metals, contaminants, additives and corrosive impurities for preventive
maintenance and reducing the cost.
The RT-OIL Spectrometer is compliant to the ASTM D6595-00 Standard Test Method used to determine
the wearing of metals and contaminants in used lubricating oils or used hydraulic fluids. This procedure
is accomplished by Rotating Disc Electrode Atomic Emission Spectrometry.
The determination of debris in used oil is a key diagnostic method practiced in machine condition
monitoring programs. The presence or increase in concentration of specific wear metals can be indicative
of the early stages of wear if there are baseline concentration data for comparison. A marked increase
in contaminant elements can be indicative of foreign materials in the lubricants, such as anti-freeze or
sand, which may lead to wear or lubricant degradation. The test method identifies the metals and their
concentration so that trends relative to time or distance can be established and corrective action can be
taken prior to more serious or catastrophic failure.

CURACEM Curing Cabinet by Qualitest
Ft. Lauderdale, FL. USA
July 30th, 2012
Qualitest's Curacem curing cabinet is ideally used in commercial and on site laboratories for the standard curing of samples of concrete, cement and similar material in accordance with EN196-1 (cement) and EN 12390-2 ( concrete).
The frame is made of strong polypropylene structure, which is chemical resistant and particularly suitable for cement applications and the front doors are fitted with glass. The humidity inside the cabinet is maintained from 95% to saturation by water nebulizer while the temperature is maintained to 20 ± 1°C by an immersion heater and separated refrigerator unit. The Water refrigeration unit is to be ordered separately.
The four stainless steel racks of the internal frame can support the moulds with specimens and a large number of cement prisms. It can also be used for concrete cubes and other mortar specimens. The unit can also be supplied with an air compressor (optional), located on top of the cabinet.
The temperature inside the cabinet is maintained constant via water kept at a controlled temperature which is atomized in the chamber. For water atomization an external source of compressed air is required. This water is taken from an internal tank with a capacity of approx. 70 l, within which is a heating resistance, and is fed by mains water which is cooled by an external refrigeration group. In its stable condition the internal temperature is 20 ± 1°C, and the atomization of the water keeps the humidity above 95%. There is no water consumption at this stage since the hydraulic circuit is closed. When it is necessary to cool the chamber the water circuit is opened and the mains water suitably cooled by the refrigeration group is fed into the tank. The chamber is heated via the heating resistance in the tank.

Qualitest announces the release of Twin Bore Capillary Rheometer
October 2010
Qualitest announces the release of a new line of Capillary Rheometer R6000 Series. This laboratory grade twin-bore capillary Rheometer saves testing time by allowing the user to get two results in one test cycle. The other key advantage of this new R 6000 series is that they can automatically calculate Bagley or other corrections, which translates into a true measure of absolute viscosity. This Twin bore unit is also useful in detecting slip-wall effects. High slip at the wall may result from lubricants, pigments, or other additives. Excessive slip can indicate the need to reduce additive levels, which will save formulation cost and improve processing.
In conjunction with the software package the R6000 enables users to rapidly make high accuracy rheological measurements on a wide range of materials. Testing concrete has always been a problematic and cumbersome endeavor. Typical tests to determine concrete quality involve coring numerous samples in order to get suitable information through destructive compression testing. Content and flaw detection generally performed by ground penetrating radar (GPR) and ultrasonic systems can typically penetrate no deeper than eight inches. With the newly developed impact echo technology, concrete content determination is made accessible and efficient while dramatically reducing testing time.
ASTM recently announced its acceptance of impact echo technology under the ASTM C1383 standard. Impact echo technology is based on the detection of stress waves caused by an impact on the surface of the test medium. With the portable impact echo system (PIES), the technician is equipped with a patented piezo-electric crystal displacement sensor, a handheld palm computer and a set of impactors. The test surface is struck causing a very slight elastic deformation that propagates throughout the material as compression (P) waves and shear (S) waves. The waves propagate through the material, reflecting and diffracting off the inside surfaces of the material. The waves are quickly detected by the sensor as they return to the surface of the material. These very slight deformations are translated into a voltage and read by the palm computer for the results of the test. A single test takes less than a second to perform, allowing the technician to run numerous tests on a vast area in very little time. Comparatively, impact echo technology can cover the same area of GPR systems in almost a tenth of the time.
With an understanding of impact echo technology and the testing process, the technician can select the parameters of the test. The user can increase or decrease the level of detail to find voids, honeycombing or most other inside imperfections in the concrete. As the stress waves bend and reflect off the inside conditions, great amounts of detail are gained with a single test. Furthermore, the stress waves propagate inside the concrete with very little deterioration. Very little accuracy is lost with increased thickness, allowing the unit to perform reliably even to a depth of 30 feet, far surpassing the limits of ultrasonic and radar technology.
The basic function of the PIES is to determine concrete thickness. As already discussed, this system can yield data on the solid concrete’s flaw characteristics. With the included programming, the information gathered from each test can also be used to calculate other properties of the sample material. Properties such as the static and dynamic elastic moduli and Poisson’s ratio can be determined without the need for destructive tests. The determination of these properties also allows insight into the concrete sample’s compressive strength. Because of the potential flaws inherent in the concrete, the compressive strength cannot directly be determined without comparison to destructive compression tests. Even so, the information from crushing two or three core samples is enough to accurately determine the compressive strength at any other point in the concrete. This method reduces an area requiring thirty core compression tests to three, reducing the time required, expenses accrued and damage to the finished structure.
The Qualitest PIES unit comes with everything needed in order to perform expert impact echo testing. The handheld computer comes prepared for testing and need only be connected to the system to begin. The handheld computer is protected by a dust-proof casing and the sensor power and conversion system is all supported by a light-weight power supply and signal digitizer. An impact echo technology workshop is included in the package as well as an instructional suite including detailed manuals and texts as well as video training. For more information on Qualitest’s PIES please visit our website at www.WorldofTest.com/impact-echo.htm. Qualitest presents QualiScope II, the latest technology in handheld automatic brinell measurement systems. QualiScope II is designed to make your testing program faster and more accurate. It also improves quality control management - it automatically stores data and is network capable.
Although the Brinell test is widely known as one of the most accurate test methods for hardness testing of metals, error in the reading of the indentation size results in measurement errors of 0.1 mm between operators - the range is even greater between labs. This error can take up your entire tolerance specification. The QualiScope II will virtually eliminate operator influence on test results. Repeatability and reproducibility will be greatly improved using the QualiScope II measurement system; test results will no longer change with every shift change.
QualiScope II features a CCD camera mounted in a rugged protective housing and the advanced optics allows for measurements to be carried out with plus/minus 0.5% accuracy and a resolution of up to 0.003mm. The advanced image analysis software automatically measures the diameter of the indentation and calculates the brinell hardness value according to ASTM E10. All measurements are stored with their image which allows for re-evaluation of the results. The operator can freely select data sets for customized reports and export data to external quality control software solutions.
Increased speed and accuracy changes the capability of your entire Brinell program dramatically. Instead of being a rough quality control measurement to find defects, the testing can add process control functionality to quickly predict potential production problems and correct them before bad parts start streaming out the other end.
To find out more about how QualiScope II can solve your brinell measurement needs please visit www.WorldofTest.com/qualiscope.htm

Qualitest presents the DIN Abrasion tester, which is the original product developed in Germany and sold worldwide. The DIN Abrasion tester is designed to conform to the ASTM D5963 and IS0 4649 standards (ISO 4649 has replaced the DIN 53516 standard).
This top quality and highly popular abrasion tester will allow you to measure the abrasion resistance of rubbers (vulcanized thermoset rubbers and thermoplastic elastomers) that are subject to abrasive/frictional wear in their actual service, such as tires, conveyor drive belts, and shoe soles. Since wear is always a result of abrasion, different test methods have been developed for the simulation of long term wear.
The method conforming to ASTM D5963 / ISO 4649 has proven to be the best way of simulating long term wear. This method enables comparative tests for the control of the uniformity of a specific material. The achieved test results provide important parameters in respect to the wear of elastomers in practical use.
The abrasion resistance is measured by moving a test piece across the surface of an abrasive sheet mounted to a revolving drum, and is expressed as volume loss in cubic millimeters or abrasion resistance index in percent. For volume loss, a smaller number indicates better abrasion resistance, while for the abrasion resistance index, a smaller number denotes poorer abrasion resistance. The DIN Abrasion tester can also be used for comparative measurements on other materials such as plastics, chalk or painted surfaces.
