PIN Brineller Portable Hardness Tester
The PIN Brineller Portable Brinell Hardness Tester is designed so that the load to indentation ratio is equivalent to the most common Brinell test (3000kg load, 10mm ball). The Brinell values are calculated using the standard brinell formula. The PIN Brineller makes an actual mechanical hardness test, it is not merely a conversion of other properties to a brinell hardness value.
A wide range of hardness can be measured from HB100 to HB700. The range from HB450 to HB700 requires an additional carbide indenter.
The PIN Brineller uses a unique method for the application of the test load. The force is applied to the indenter by means of either a hammer blow (impact device) or through a C clamp (static load tester). The force applied to the indenter is controlled by a calibrated expandable shear pin. The shear pin is placed against the flat end of the indenter and prevents the indenter to recede into the indenter sleeve (cavity) as force is applied. When the applied force reaches the strength of the shear pin, the shear pin breaks relieving the load on the indenter. The diameter of the indenter is measured by means of a conventional brinell scope, and the associated hardness value is read from the conversion table.
Test Conditions: 1580kgf, F/D2 =30, which is equivalent to test conditions: 3000kgf, Ф10mm ball.
The PIN Brineller is available in two configurations, the STE-A and the STE-B. Both are delivered as complete packages ready for immediate use (3lb flat faced hammer is needed in addition to the above packages). The STE-A is a complete package including both the static load C-Clamp tester and the Impact test device, see below for standard delivery. STE-B includes only the Impact test.

The Pin Brineller can be used to test the hardness of forgings, castings, steel, nonferrous metals and alloys as well as machined parts such as annealed, tempered, quenched and tempered metal parts.
The PIN Brineller has many advantages such as compact design, easy operation and wide application range.
Compared with the commonly used Leebs hardness testers, the PIN Brineller has higher precision and lower requirement on the surface roughness and dimensions of the work piece.
